SDM’s Cindy Connolly Wins Public Information Act Case on Behalf of Prison Legal News
SD&M attorney Cindy Connolly, together with attorneys from the Texas Civil Rights Project, represents Prison Legal News, a monthly publication that reports on criminal justice issues and a project of the Human Rights Defense Center. The News filed suit against Corrections Corporation of America, the nation’s largest for-profit prison company, after the company refused to disclose records in response to a public information request. This week, a Travis County District Court granted summary judgment to the News, holding that the company is a “governmental body” for purposes of the Texas Public Information Act. More information on the decision, the Texas Civil Rights Project, and the Human Rights Defense Center can be found here.
